They are the offspring of the ones which escaped from an elementary school on the island in the early 70&#8217;s. The population of the rabbits decreased during the pandemic, because of lack of food\/tourists (many rabbits were forced to return to the forest for food foraging), but the population has quickly recovered, and there is absolutely no shortage of them nowadays.<br \/>\nEvery year over 350,000 rabbit lovers from all over the world visit \u014ckunoshima, however, like <a href=\"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/destinations\/taketomi-yaeyama-okinawa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taketomi Island<\/a> or Miyajima Island, you can have a much better and different experience if you stay the night instead of a day trip, as the island becomes quiet and serene after the last boat leaves for the day.<br \/>\n\u014ckunoshima has a few idyllic secluded beaches like many other islands in Seto Inland Sea (there are over 700 of them!) but these nameless secluded beaches are often ignored by tourists (only the main beach attracts the attention of some tourists) as they are all very busy hanging out with the bunnies.<\/p>\n<p>Most people take the ferry from Tadanoumi Port but if you plan to visit \u014ckunoshima on a weekend or national holiday, we highly recommend taking the boat from Sunami Port as they accept <a href=\"https:\/\/habushosen.jp\/timetable\/timetable08\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online bookings<\/a> so there is no need to line up for the tickets which is inevitable for the ferries from Tadanoumi Port. <\/p>\n<p>Usually we avoid this kind of overly touristy place, but we have to admit that it&#8217;s such a fun place for families who love animals, especially if you stay the night (and the rabbits are more active from late afternoon into the night, as well as early in the morning).<br \/>\n\u014ckunoshima has only one place to stay, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qkamura.or.jp\/en\/ohkuno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kyukamura Ohkunoshima<\/a>.<br \/>\n[put_wpgm id=44]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":67155,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"portfolio_category":[],"class_list":["post-67170","portfolio","type-portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/portfolio\/67170","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/portfolio"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/portfolio"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=67170"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/portfolio\/67170\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":67488,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/portfolio\/67170\/revisions\/67488"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/67155"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=67170"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"portfolio_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/ippei-janine.com\/travel-japan-islands\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/portfolio_category?post=67170"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
