Part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, it is connected to the mainland by bridge and can also be reached by ferry from Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture.

The island has a fascinating history. During the late 19th century, thousands of its residents emigrated to Hawaii. By the second and third generations, many descendants of these immigrants had become leaders in politics, business, and the legal profession, playing a central role in the development of Hawaiian society. This enduring connection eventually led to Suo-Oshima and Kauai being designated as sister islands.

Like many islands in the Seto Inland Sea, Suo-Oshima is renowned for its citrus production, with countless varieties grown across the island. While winter is a paradise for citrus lovers, the period from June to mid-October is great for marine activities such as snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), thanks to the warm waters and calm conditions.

For those seeking a slower pace, we highly recommend staying at the all-inclusive Marissa Resort, where you can relax and enjoy the calm, glass-like waters of the Seto Inland Sea, along with the resort’s pools and a variety of other activities.

For galette, crêpe, and honey lovers, we highly recommend MIKKE. They serve delicious buckwheat galettes in both savory and sweet varieties, and also sell locally produced honey from their own bee farm on the island. There’s even a small bee museum inside the café. It’s located right next to Marissa Resort.

For matcha lovers, don’t miss Matcha-Stand Tachibana. Here you can whisk and prepare your own matcha latte using top-quality premium matcha, making it a fun and authentic experience.

If you’re looking for a bento lunch to enjoy on the beach, we highly recommend Paralun. They offer freshly prepared takeaway meals, and you can also dine in if you prefer, although seating is limited and they close at 3:00 pm.

[put_wpgm id=49]

["post-68139","portfolio","type-portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
