  Ippei and Janine were great to work with! Thankfully, they were able to fit us in to their packed schedule on a week's notice, and Janine was quick to respond and communicate the details of our session, what was expected of us, and the experience they would provide. Ippei was our photographer for the day, and having him as our first professional photographer made the experience seamless, free of anxiety, and fun (He also recommended a great clam ramen shop that we tried near our shooting location). Though we never met Janine in person, I’m sure working with her would’ve been just as natural as it was working with Ippei. Moreover, they got our images back to us at a surprising turnaround speed, and the quality, feel, and atmosphere of the photos they provided us with are just as wonderful as the memory we can now look back on.

  My fiance and I were planning a trip to Japan and we knew we wanted to do a photoshoot while we were there. After searching online, I found Ippei and Janine and booked them in April-May for our trip in October. From the start, they were super great! They wanted to really get to know us and shared their story with us as well so we could know them from a more personal level. They provided a lot of options of where to shoot, what to wear...etc. and provided information on everything we need. The few days before the shoot, they confirmed the meeting place and time and on the day of, it was super seemless! We were given all the information beforehand and we met up with Ippei for our shoot. He was right on time and he has such a nice and calming presence! My fiance and I are not huge on taking photos and we definitely do not know how to pose but Ippei knew exactly where to place us, took into consideration what our "good sides" were and kept checking in on us throughout the shoot to make sure we were comfortable!! He also showed us the photos as we were shooting so we could get an idea of what the photos were looking like. We really really appreciated that! We walked away from the shoot super super happy!!   A Perfect Anniversary Shoot – Ippei & Janine Photography

For our 10-year anniversary — and our first trip to Japan — we wanted to capture something special. We booked a couples shoot with Ippei & Janine Photography in Tokyo, drawn to their natural, storytelling style. Though we were hoping for a moody, lantern-lit night shoot, they didn’t have evening slots available. But Ippei, with his deep local knowledge and creative eye, found a dimly lit alleyway that matched our vision — and made it work beautifully at 10am!

From the start, communication was clear, professional, and thoughtful. Ippei was our photographer on the day, and he was genuinely warm, welcoming and accommodating and full of great local tips — recommending cafes, bars, and places to explore after the shoot.

During the session, Ippei guided us with subtle cues and gentle direction, helping us feel natural and relaxed in front of the camera. Nothing felt forced or overly posed — just honest moments that reflected who we are and the love we share.

The final photos were exactly what we hoped for: moody, intimate, and authentic. They captured not just how we look, but how we feel about each other.

From the moment we met, he made us feel comfortable and at ease, which was so important since we’re not used to being in front of the camera.   I cannot put into words how amazing it was to work with Ippei and Janine for our first photoshoot. We personally worked with Janine and she was great to work with. She made us feel comfortable (coming from two very camera shy people!) and kept reassuring us during the entire process. She made it fun and lighthearted.   We love Ippei & Janine's work so much that we tried to book a session multiple times, only to find out that they are fully booked. We took an impromptu trip to Tokyo and with zero hope, I reached out to Ippei and Janine to see if they would be available for a photoshoot. To my surprise, Janine was able to make it work and we were so thrilled to work with them.

From the initial consultation to on-going coordination to final product delivery, we communicated with Janine throughout the whole process and she was prompt, professional, and courteous. Also, at every step of the way, she was trying to get to know us and build a relationship, rather than treating us as a one-time customer.   While we can't say that we booked a trip to Japan just for a photo opportunity with Janine and Ippei, it certainly was a huge factor in our decision to visit Japan (as opposed to another place) and they did not disappoint!

We had our photos done with Janine and she was super communicative with us throughout the journey, especially the day of where the weather was not the best (the threat of rain was there all day!) She was super flexible with the shooting plan and was able to make spur of the moment decisions that resulted in stunning photos. In fact, we ended up being so thankful for the rain as I felt that it made the session so much more special! My husband has a hard time smiling into photos but Janine made the session so comfortable that he was able to smile naturally - I feat that I can't do most of the time for pictures! Ippei is an amazing photographer who was very friendly and whom we felt immediately comfortable with at our photoshoot. We visited Tokyo a bit too early for peak cherry blossom season, but Ippei went above and beyond to make sure we got the photos we wanted and we were able to find one tree that bloomed early and it's one of our favorite pictures!   When we began to plan our honeymoon in Japan one of the first things we wanted to do was to schedule a photoshoot with Janine and Ippei. My now-husband and I inquired about an elopement shoot in Tokyo several months before our trip. Highly recommend. Ippei & Janine book out pretty fast (they said upwards to a year for really busy seasons), so I would recommend reaching out ASAP. My partner and I did a 60-minute shoot with the plan of doing 1 location since we wanted to factor in time to get the "nervousness" out, but it was seriously not needed. Ippei brought out the best in us right from the start and we even had time leftover to shoot at another (but very close) location.

  Found Ippei & Janine online when we were looking for someone to take wedding photos as we were eloping during our holiday to Japan. We were lucky enough that they had time to photograph us in the limited amount of time we were in the country. The communication by e-mail was very good from the start, which was incredibly reassuring for us as we travelled from far away. There were clear instructions and recommendations ahead of the session, so we knew what to expect on the photoshoot itself. They were very professional throughout, and we really got the feeling that they wanted to get to know us to be able to portray the real us in the photos.

Ippei made us feel very relaxed during the photo shoot. He is very pleasant, talkative, outgoing and friendly. Along the way, he showed us previews of some of the images on his camera, and gave us lots of tips for both poses and how to stop overthinking and feeling natural in front of the camera. We also received many good tips for places to eat and areas that local Japanese people use, which we really appreciated.

  10/10 would work with them again! Ippei and Janine were a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process of having our engagement photos taken. I've broken down this review into a few sections to make for easier reading.

Booking:
Very straight forward. Clear pricing. Prompt communication about available dates and what to expect during the whole process. Straightforward and transparent pricing (quite competitive compared to other photographers). Easy to make a deposit payment.

Planning:
They were very thoughtful in discussing our session with us. We were asked about out personal tastes/preferences of photography style. Ippei and Janine are obviously very knowledgeable about Tokyo and were able to narrow down our selection to a couple of locations that they thought would be ideal for us. Throughout this process they were also constantly providing us with examples of previous shoots in those locations to give us an idea of what our photos may resemble.

Lead up:
In the days leading up to our shoot, we could see that heavy rain was forecasted for the day we had planned for. Janine and Ippei were very proactive in asking about our comfort about shooting in the rain. Up until the very last minute, they were flexible with scheduling and we ultimately agreed to delay the shoot until the following morning for when the storm had passed. It was a huge relief to not have our shoot cancelled altogether.

Day of:
Both Ippei and Janine shoot independently. Ippei was assigned to our session. We were given very clear instruction about when and where to meet. The remainder of our payment was requested to be made in cash (Japanese yen). Ippei was there a few minutes before our scheduled appointment time. From the start he was very approachable and light-hearted which helped to make us more comfortable. It is Tokyo and so expect to be a bit quick on your feet to get the best shots possible while navigating around other pedestrians. Ippei was great at directing our movements while allowing room for some spontaneity as well. He would show us some of the photos on his camera as we moved along to make sure he was capturing the moment as we would like. There was a pleasant mix of close up intimate shots as well as more private distance shots. As we were quite efficient with our time, we even had 20 minutes to spare at the end and Ippei was gracious enough to offer to take us to another location for a few quick photos in a different environment. Side note* I love eating and Ippei was able to give us some terrific recommendations while we were walking from place to place.

Photos:
Our photos were gorgeous. They were promptly delivered within a few days of our shoot and we were awestruck by the result. Ippei captured the moment between my fiancée and I with such sincerity and helped us blend in seamlessly with our surroundings. The resolution of the photos is terrific and the downloading the photos was quite easy. The link can easily be shared with family and friends for viewing and you have 1 month to download the photos from their site.

My fiancée and I are so grateful to Ippei and Janine for helping us commemorate our engagement and first trip to Japan together. We will certainly look forward to requesting their services again in the future.

  Janine was incredibly professional and responsive the entire time leading up to our Tokyo trip. We were blown away when she spotted a specific area and then would tell us how she envisioned the shot and would direct us to stand/sit/lay in certain spots, giving us pointers.   Being a full-time professional photographer myself means that most the time on trips I'm behind the camera and not in front of it. Every time my husband and I travel we now book a professional so that we can have some great shots of us together as trying to do self portraits is just.... not easy. I researched photography as we were planning our trip for Japan and found Ippei & Janine. Janine messaged me a few days before and we ended up having to move our shoot to four hours after we landed due to a Typhoon that was about to hit the morning after we got in. She was great, accommodating, showed us the best spots in the half hour we had, and then walked us to a great little dinner spot, which was incredible. Photos arrived a few days later and they were great. As a professional photographer I was not super nervous and pretty much let her do her thing, as I tell all my clients if you like the portfolio, and like the style then that is what your going to get, so relax and let the professionals guide you and everything will be fine :).

  Ippei & Janine have been fantastic from the start-- Janine was warm and responsive when we first reached out to discuss our photoshoot, and after we had confirmed she continued to give us very detailed instructions and advice and even recommended a great MUA in Tokyo to help achieve the best outcome. With the detailed instructions it was easy to know what to expect, which helped ease us into the shoot with Ippei. We're terribly awkward people but he worked his magic and we miraculously looked really natural and relaxed on camera. We're also super grateful that we managed to get the exact type of shots that we wanted-- Janine had been careful to manage our expectations due to various logistical/operational limitations, but they managed to come through for us in the end and I was really relieved and thankful. There was a feeling of comfort (that's important when you begin to plan for something life-changing) upon receiving the first response from Janine.   Had an incredible time with Ippei at Asakusa for our engagement photoshoot. He's a wizard with a camera and every shot we received looked like a dream! We booked a one-hour session and we were unbelievably happy with the results and variety of photos we received. Asakusa is notoriously busy, but Ippei was able to guide us and frame the shots to look like it was just the two of us! Although we did encounter rain during our session, it only enhanced the results. Our turnaround time only took 2 days and we're more than happy with the results!

  Ippei is a wonderful photographer that knows how to guide you and take the best result out of you. We had a shooting in Asakusa and even if the shrine was full of people Ippei was able to isolate us and make it look like it's just the two of us living our moment.
We also faced some difficulties with the kimono rental and were out of schedule but still Ippei was very cooperative and helped us with everything.
We received the photos 2 days later and the result was stunning! Definitely recommend having this experiene in Japan!
Moreover, prior to the meeting, Janine was very helpful through our emails, giving us every detail about the photoshoot and the place we will meet. That was really reassuring considering that you visit a strange place for the first time.

We were surprised that he remembered small details about us like our profession and that we met dancing. The photo turnaround time is so fast, but the quality is just as stunning.   Ippei & Janine Photography stood out amongst the other photographers we looked at. I was certain that I wanted them to capture our engagement photos. At first, we were a little hesitant that it was an evening photoshoot, but it was perfect. It was much cooler at 5pm to wear yukatas than in the afternoon. From the initial interaction, Janine was very pleasant to communicate with. She was prompt in her responses and provided in-depth information regarding what was to be expected throughout the photoshoot and helpful suggestions to ensure a flawless experience.

On the day of the shoot, we had the pleasure of meeting her husband Ippei who provided a fun, comfortable and unforgettable experience shooting in Tokyo. He shot at numerous places, which included the places we had requested. It was the first photo shoot my fiancé and I have done and we were both unsure how to pose. But Ippei provided many suggestions for us and ensured we liked the photos after each shot. Within a couple of days we received our photos and absolutely amazed on how they turned out.

  Ippei and Janine are amazing. They are organized, communicative, and clear experts in their field. Booking virtually was a seamless experience, and Ippei and Janine provided tons of information regarding the shooting location, contingency plans (e.g. rain on photoshoot day), and best outfits to wear.

I'm usually a pretty awkward person, so I was worried about posing for the pictures. I need not have worried - Janine put us at ease as soon as we met, and we looked so natural and engaged in our final photos, I couldn't believe it. As a bonus, she gave us some local tips for where to eat and explore in Tokyo. Thanks, Janine!

  We had a planned trip to Tokyo and thought it would be great to get professional photos taken. So glad we were able to find Ippei and Janine Photography. Quick and responsive to emails. Janine was our photographer and she exceeded our expectations. Very nice and approachable. We felt comfortable the entire shoot even with a little rain our photos came out great. Quick turnaround for our photos as well!

  Ippei and Janine were FANTASTIC. From inquiring, to coordination, actual shooting, and the end results, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We really felt like they wanted to get to know us as a couple before we even met; we totally appreciated it. Emailing to coordinate and set up with Janine was so easy. They are incredibly thorough in the information they give and their tips were helpful. We actually got to meet Ippei in person for the photo session and he was so kind and such a great guide. It was nice to chat and hear about the area, and even get some great food recommendations!

We got our photos back with such a quick turnaround we were pleasantly surprised. Photographers often take really long to send full albums so I was just anticipating a small sneak peek with a few photos in a few days, but we got our entire album! We love love looooove the way the photos turned out and can't wait to share them with the rest of our family.

Finding a good (high quality) photographer when you travel can be very hard. We're so glad we found this husband and wife dream team. Their style is so beautiful and their range of work with families, couples, individual's headshots, and their own family/lifestyle photos they share on their instagram, show the great diversity of what they can do.
