  I am beyond thankful we chose Ippei & Janine Photography for our engagement photos. Their work speaks for itself. Janine was incredibly responsive and thorough in responding to my inquiry. I was impressed by their exemplary professionalism and their personal recommendations of special sites for our engagement photos. As first-time tourists in Japan, we had no knowledge of ideal sites to avoid crowds during photoshoots so their insight was paramount to the incredible photos we ultimately received. Ippei was our photographer on the day of our shoot. He took us to three locations - two more traditional Tokyo sites and one garden. We were fortunate to have been scheduled just prior to the peak bloom of the Somei Yoshino tree - the most popular Spring sakura variety in Japan. Timing combined with Ippei's photographic skills, and the editing in their unique style resulted in images more stunning than I could have ever imagined.   Ippei & Janine are wonderful! They walked my bf and I through every step of the photography process via email, so we knew exactly what to expect on photoshoot day. When meeting Ippei in person, he was lovely to work with and you could tell that he is very passionate about his craft. He was a bright light - very positive and even gave us some wonderful recommendations of things to do while we were staying in Japan.   We enjoyed our experience with Ippei and Janine, a couple that impressed us with their attention to detail, organisation and communication. With last-minute rainy and windy weather changes, leading up to the big day, we were less optimistic about having the perfect shoot. However, the couple tried their best to fit in our shoot despite being well-booked while remaining kind and flexible throughout. The shoot itself was with Ippei and it was smooth and fun. He gave us concise and helpful directions, so that we had good ideas on what to do with ourselves while adding elements that made it more ‘us’. We also appreciated the great time management - each minute at the shoot felt well-spent. We and our loved ones are all pleased with the outcome.

  Ippei and Janine were amazing!!! We felt so comfortable and had a lot of fun. Super professional but personable photographers. Before the session, they helped us pick a location, guided us on outfit choices and make-up, and the whole process was SO easy and organized. We booked a one-hour session, and we were able to get photos in quite a few spots within our location. They really know what they are doing.   It was wonderful to have our pictures taken by Ippei in Tokyo. Ippei and Janine organized everything well in advance and provided detailed plans, so on the day of our shoot we felt prepared and at ease. Ippei’s is a professional, at the same time he made the process comfortable and fun. During the shoot, he taught us a lot about Japan, and recommended new places for us to explore based on what we like to do. We received our photos in only a few days which is way faster than we have received photos in the past. He also gave a great tip on where to grab a coffee after the shoot and some nice local spot reccommendations as well.   After traveling for 15 days throughout Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong, our photoshoot with Ippei was definitely one of our favorite experiences from our entire trip. Our photoshoot took place in the early morning in Asakusa with Ippei. It was our first time having a professional couple photoshoot, but Ippei made us feel comfortable and relaxed right from the start. He helped us out with poses, gave us guidance, and listened to our ideas as well! His creative direction, keen eye, and friendly, personable demeanor made the entire experience truly fun and memorable. The turnaround time after the photoshoot was very quick (~2 days) and we could not be happier with how each and every photo turned out in the end. Ippei was able to capture genuine, candid moments between us against the beautiful backdrop of Asakusa, which is exactly what we wanted.   Janine was incredibly professional and responsive the entire time leading up to our Tokyo trip. We were blown away when she spotted a specific area and then would tell us how she envisioned the shot and would direct us to stand/sit/lay in certain spots, giving us pointers. She is very detail-oriented and ensured that my dress tag wasn't showing. Within about 30-40 minutes of shooting, we received 101 amazing photos.

  Had the best time shooting with Ippei for me and my fiances' trip to Tokyo. I was impressed by how Ippei was able to pose us and navigate the Tokyo market to get the best photos. It was raining during our shoot day and the shots still came out PERFECT!   Being a full-time professional photographer myself means that most the time on trips I'm behind the camera and not in front of it. Every time my husband and I travel we now book a professional so that we can have some great shots of us together as trying to do self portraits is just.... not easy. I researched photography as we were planning our trip for Japan and found Ippei & Janine. Janine messaged me a few days before and we ended up having to move our shoot to four hours after we landed due to a Typhoon that was about to hit the morning after we got in. She was great, accommodating, showed us the best spots in the half hour we had, and then walked us to a great little dinner spot, which was incredible. Photos arrived a few days later and they were great. As a professional photographer I was not super nervous and pretty much let her do her thing, as I tell all my clients if you like the portfolio, and like the style then that is what your going to get, so relax and let the professionals guide you and everything will be fine :).

  Had an incredible time with Ippei at Asakusa for our engagement photoshoot. He's a wizard with a camera and every shot we received looked like a dream! We booked a one-hour session and we were unbelievably happy with the results and variety of photos we received. Asakusa is notoriously busy, but Ippei was able to guide us and frame the shots to look like it was just the two of us! Although we did encounter rain during our session, it only enhanced the results. Our turnaround time only took 2 days and we're more than happy with the results! 100% would recommend if you're in Japan. Thank you again!

  Ippei is a wonderful photographer that knows how to guide you and take the best result out of you. We had a shooting in Asakusa and even if the shrine was full of people Ippei was able to isolate us and make it look like it's just the two of us living our moment. We also faced some difficulties with the kimono rental and were out of schedule but still Ippei was very cooperative and helped us with everything. We received the photos 2 days later and the result was stunning! Definitely recommend having this experiene in Japan! Moreover, prior to the meeting, Janine was very helpful through our emails, giving us every detail about the photoshoot and the place we will meet. We were surprised that he remembered small details about us like our profession and that we met dancing. The photo turnaround time is so fast, but the quality is just as stunning.   Ippei & Janine Photography stood out amongst the other photographers we looked at. I was certain that I wanted them to capture our engagement photos. We communicated with Janine through email, and she was extremely thorough and helpful in arranging our photoshoot. We are very thankful they changed their schedule to fit us in. At first, we were a little hesitant that it was an evening photoshoot, but it was perfect. It was much cooler at 5pm to wear yukatas than in the afternoon. They gave us many recommendations and tips which were very helpful. From the beginning of our communication and throughout the photoshoot, their level of professionalism was above and beyond. Ippei was our photographer, and he was very prompt and efficient. He directed us on how to pose and captured some photos from angles that I wouldn't even think of. We had such an amazing time that we forgot how uncomfortable it was walking in the yukata sandals. Ippei has an eye for detail and is very observant. He noticed the hydrangea flowers from so far away and said that it would go well with the yukata design I wore. We absolutely love our photos and highly recommend them! I usually struggle to like 1 out of 10 photos but Ippei has reversed this problem for me. There were too many favorites to narrow down from. Thank you so much for capturing these moments for us!

Booking virtually was a seamless experience, and Ippei and Janine provided tons of information regarding the shooting location, contingency plans (e.g. rain on photoshoot day), and best outfits to wear. And Ippei also did a good job in being a foodie tour guide, we even visited one of the recommended restaurant right after the photo session.   We were looking for photographers to help us shoot some engagement photos in Tokyo during our trip and stumbled upon Janine and Ippei through google.   I cannot recommend Ippei and Janine enough to anyone looking to do a photoshoot in Tokyo! I was first drawn to their style of photography because of how natural all of their models looked. My husband and I are not great models (awkward in front of camera), but Janine helped us feel at ease and direct us on how to pose. Unfortunately we had some rainy weather during our sakura shoot, but Janine and Ippei met us out in the rain to capture some beautiful photos. Plus, they say overcast makes for even more beautiful pictures. 😉 I reached out a couple weeks before we arrived in Tokyo, and I was hoping they would have a spot available to us. Luckily they had a 30 min slot open. I wasn’t sure how many good shots we could get in 30 minutes. However, I guess it is easy when you are working with true professionals. We had so many wonderful pictures that came out. Communication and booking with them was easy as well! If you are thinking about booking with them, stop thinking and do it!!

  Our experience with Janine was wonderful. From the first emails before our shoot through to the day the actual photos (within just about 3 days of our shoot) were delivered was incredible. The shoot itself was well managed and she was able to pull wonderful shots of our normally hard to pin down toddler in our pregnancy shoot. In a short time frame she was able to conjure up great ideas as well as capturing all the ones we specifically asked for. The results are gorgeous and we will treasure them forever.   Janine was very professional with me from the beginning of our communication. Coordinating a surprise proposal can be stressful and annoying to photographers when people can get indecisive like myself. But she guided me through the entire process with ease.

We initially decided to work with Janine because she shared a lot of helpful information upfront, which helped us to understand the process, expectations and need not to worry about if there’s any hidden fees or service that we will have to purchase additionally. Janine also asked for a few photos of ourselves to get a sense of who we are, and from there to suggest some great locations and themes for us to choose from. A few days prior to the photoshoot session, Janine shared detailed information with us on how to get there and where to meet exactly, which was so easy to follow.   I found Ippei and Janine while cruising through Pinterest looking at Japan elopement ideas and immediately ran over to my fiancé to show off their work! We weren't intending to take photos on our trip but when I saw their style and the genuine joy they were able to capture of their clients, couples, and families, I knew we were in good hands! In 10 years together, my partner and I had never had professional photos taken (and aren't big photo takers on our own), so we were a bit nervous. We worked with Ippei during our shoot and even though we were LATE (take that earlier train, folks!) and were absolute beginners being in front of the camera, he got us started right away and helped us pose and move in a way that felt natural to us. We were surprised but we actually had a ton of fun during the shoot! We had been to Asakusa before during the day and loved it but running around with Ippei through the back streets at night was an experience in itself. What a special, fun, and unique experience to have on our elopement/honeymoon. And let me tell you about our photos. In TWO DAYS we got back some of the most gorgeous engagement/elopement photos I've ever seen.   In short, Ippei and Janine made our engagement photoshoot dreams come true! After unexpectedly getting engaged four days into our two week trip to Japan, I felt such a pull for someone to capture us in the rawness of our joy and excitement. I always imagined us doing our engagement photoshoot while traveling abroad, and Ippei and Janine made that happen on short notice! The location was exactly what we hoped for—authentic, light-filled, adventurous, and romantic at the same time. We were pleasantly surprised by the turnaround time—about a day and a half—and loved seeing our photos while we were still in Tokyo.   My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Tokyo and couldn't be more pleased to receive such lovely photos from Ippei. Despite a short 30 min shoot, Ippei made us feel comfortable really quickly. He was familiar with the surroundings and knew how best to position us to get the shots. With that, we even managed to pull off action shots that we didn't think would be possible (and we looked great too!)   We had a pretty last minute plan to visit Japan and it so happened to be our first trip since our engagement. My fiancé and I figured we should shoot our engagement photos in Tokyo. I reached out to Ippei & Janine and they got back to us quickly and luckily we were able to squeeze into their very busy schedule. We were so happy and honored to be able to work with them, as we really appreciated their style of photography. on the day of our photo shoot, we worked with Ippei and he was so sweet and accommodating (even asked us if we wanted hand warmers because it was quite cold that day). None of it was awkward because he made sure to guide us with different poses and asked us prior if there was anything that we specifically wanted, on top of that made sure that we were getting our better angles. Despite of the places being quite crowded, he was able very easily to find the right spots, and the best ways to capture very natural pictures of us!   It was a lot of fun to shoot with Janine. I booked a 1 hour session with my partner and our 1 year baby boy, and Janine made us feel comfortable in front of the camera (which was not an easy task!) and managed to capture some candid moments with our baby who never stopped moving 😅 She also managed the time perfectly without ever giving us the impression of being in a hurry, so we can make the best of the session with different background and scenes.   It was by pure chance and luck that I got to book a a surprise engagement shoot with Ippei and Janine considering their very busy schedule. It was peak season(December) but they manage to squeeze us in and it was nothing short of incredible. From the initial phase, `the other Janine`(*wink wink*) was very informative, friendly and precise. She was on point with her suggestions on the location, timing, clothing, etc., and the communication updates were very timely! Everything felt professional but at the same time very personal! Ippei was our photographer for the day and though there were some initial hiccups with our chosen location(not their fault), Ippei was very flexible and made sure to make it work for the best.   We had a wonderful experience with Ippei and Janine! We engaged Ippei and Janine to shoot our second pre-wedding photoshoot while visiting Japan and I can say that it was one of the highlights of our trip.   Couldn’t be happier with the results after a couples’ shoot with Ippei at night. Aside from his obvious skill with the camera, he directed the shoot in a way that made it fun and relaxing, so the process was as satisfying as the result. Beforehand, Janine set out what to expect and how to get the best from the session. Her communication was always clear and done in good time, and she took the trouble to recommend some (excellent) coffee spots near where we were staying for that all-important caffeination! A day after we received a shot, Janine emailed to say they’d tweaked a few of them and to please download them again. They’d looked fine to me, but Ippei and Janine obviously care about the results just as much as their clients do. Overall I’d say you’ll be well prepared for your shoot and it’ll be a fun experience. Then just leave it to the pros to capture the spirit that you bring to it.

We were highly attracted by their photography style, mood and feel which is very special and iconic compared with other photographers. They are very popular and luckily we were able to secure a slot in early December. On the shooting day, we counted on Ippei San good hand without any hesitation.   We reached out to Ippei and Janine for an engagement photoshoot for the brief time we were visiting Tokyo and were lucky enough that they had space in their schedule to fit us in! Throughout the months before the shoot, Janine communicated helpful instructions, answered our questions, and provided so many useful tips for the shoot from what to wear, to weather conditions, to location. As someone who had never done a professionally shot couples photoshoot her patience and tips were super helpful!   The communication before the shoot was very smooth over emails. Ippei and Janine helped us define the different locations and provided advices regarding outfits. We recommend booking well in advance as they are in high demand. For the shoot itself, it was the first time that we (my fiancée and I) ever had a photo session. We were a little bit nervous at first but Ippei made us feel at ease straight away. Our shoot was over 3 different locations in Tokyo over one afternoon. It went very smoothly and allowed for a good variety of pictures across all different places. Ippei knew all the right spots, and was great at taking advantages of the light and surroundings. He also guided us for the different poses and movements, while ensuring we kept a natural aspect to the photos (as opposed to being static).   Janine took family photos for us in Asakusa last month and we were very happy with the results. She shared lots of helpful information with us beforehand and the shoot itself went smoothly.   Ippei & Janine have been photographing our family for two years now and have captured precious family moments for us. They are responsive, thorough in their communications and made the actual photoshoot so comfortable, relaxed and efficient (very important with children!). We are not always comfortable in front of the camera, but their photos make it seem otherwise with fun and candid shots.   Ippei and Janine were wonderful to work with. Before the shoot, they shared a lot of useful information about how to prepare. They also communicated frequently with us to ensure that they really understood what kind of photoshoot we wanted. Ippei did the photoshoot for us. He was friendly and engaging, and really made us feel comfortable since this was our first photoshoot. He also talked to us about his thoughts on specific spots or poses, and showed us sample pictures frequently to make sure we were happy with how it was going. As a photographer, he was very effective. We managed to visit a large number of places in the 2 hours and ended up with a variety of beautiful photos. He was also prepared by being up to date with city construction, and able to suggest alternative plans on the fly when we hit unexpected crowds.

  Thank you for taking our amazing maternity photos. We were planning to have a photo shoots at Hamariku garden but last minute Janine found out the park was closed due to coronavirus and suggested some other options. So we decided to go to Hibiya park for the photos. She was so quick and a good planner. We have a shy two year old daughter and Janine relieved her tension so our daughter smiled a lot and could take the best shots so far :). We definitely will come back.

  Just had an amazing maternity shoot with Janine, and I couldn't be happier with both the experience and the end results. At 37 weeks pregnant, I really appreciated how fun, easy, and relaxed she made our session feel. She was able to capture my husband and me in a variety of beautiful urban settings that will always remind us of this special time living in this incredible city.   We have been big fans of Ippei and Janine's work for several years now, but only recently did we book a family photo shoot with them, and I am so glad we did it. The photos are beautiful, we all look fabulous on them! They really have a way to capture atmospheres that no other photographers I hired managed to do. The process of hiring Ippei and Janine is also super easy; they are very responsive and communication is super clear. I showed Janine the photos in their portfolio that I liked the most and she understood my preferences; then we chose to meet at my local temple; she investigated the area on Google maps for the best spots around the temple and had great recommendations. So on the day, within 30mn, we were able to take several views of the family (us four, kids only, pregnant mother only) at the temple and on the side streets of the temple. I honestly I don't know how Janine produced such an array of amazing pictures in so little time and with so little hassle for us! Lastly, she also managed to get the kids to look at the camera, using little toys to attract their attention! I think that whoever reads this review will understand that I highly recommend working with Janine and Ippei 🙂

  I can't possibly say enough good things about Ippei and Janine! We did a 1 hour shoot on Saturday night, and our photos were delivered on Monday morning!! Most of our email correspondence was through Janine, and she was helpful and informative and gave us a lot of good recommendations about times, dates, and even clothing.   I had a great experience doing a maternity photoshoot with Janine. She understood my expectations and delivered amazingly. Communication was always smooth and professional: from initial contact, choosing the package, setting the date, location suggestions, etc. The edited photos were also ready just a couple of days after the shoot! During the photoshoot, she was great at directing my poses and the photos came out absolutely wonderful. If you're black, you always worry about coming out too dark in photos because of lighting issues but the photos are just right, jut magical, especially the ones in the cherry blossoms.   We had a great session with Janine. She was very detailed oriented both before and on set: she provided many amazing locations depend on what kind of photos we would like to have, then narrowed down to 2-3 locations after discussing with us. After we have decided the location, prior the photo shoot she would send a detailed email regarding the location (how to go by train, taxi or by car), suggestions on clothing and colors and so on to make sure we would get good photos and good experience. I’m very glad that I took her advice on how many locations we should do during our session - with 2 hours session it seemed easy to do 2 locations with the car but when we actually are doing the session, I realized how hectic it would be with two small kids and all the luggage we had. I thought we wouldn’t have all the elements for the photos since we decided to do only 1 location, but we had everything we wanted on the pictures: beautiful red/yellow autumn leaves, Japanese traditional architects, natural woods, tsubaki flowers... and most importantly, amazing capture of the whole family. On the day Janie make sure everyone is happy and comfortable in front of the camera, it was effortless for us and so much fun. She was very good to get the kids attention and capture at the perfect moment. After the shoot we received our pictures very fast, and we are so in love with it. We are VERY satisfied and happy with the service and the results, which we are already planning to do another one in spring with Janine again. We would definitely recommend anyone who are considering having a beautiful photo session with Janine and Ippei, they for sure will capture the most beautiful moments of yours.

  We had our photo shoot recently with Ippei & Janine Photography. We had a great and comfortable experience. Due to fine sunny weather and, most importantly, Ippei’s awesome photographing skills, the pictures turned out great! Even though we met with Ippei for the first time, he behaved like a friend to us.   This past week Janine met my family outside of Tokyo to take our family photos. From the first interaction on email to the very end she was so pleasant and helpful to work with! Due to the current Covid 19 situation, I asked up front for flexibility on locations for a specific date. We had hoped to be able to spend one of our final weekends in Japan in Tokyo but my husband's company refused us to travel outside of Kanagawa. So we both looked into a new location. It was an area she had never been to before. I had given a few locations I thought would be good photo spots but she did her own research and had an entire walking route mapped out to use our time effectively. Throughout the photoshoot she kept showing me images of our family. I was in love with every image I saw! She captured my family beautifully while capturing the backgrounds I had inquired about. Two days later I was heading into a meeting, and my email pinged with our final photos. I couldn't believe she had everything turned around so quick! If you have the opportunity, book Ippei and Janine- you will not be disappointed in the beautiful products they deliver.

  hi. so sorry for my long overdue review. we actually did our shoot in December just before Christmas last year. Janine was great overall couldnt ask for a better photographer. She was easy to approach great with both the children. She got my husband to smile for pictures! Jokes aside. highly recommended loved the results. will definitely return if I ever come back to Tokyo for another round. Thanks again!!

  I engaged Janine for a family photo shoot as we were going to have a family holiday in Tokyo. I got to know them as a colleague recently engaged them for a photo shoot and i loved the style of their photography which is very natural. My parents and sisters are very happy with the shoot and also the results of the shoot. Janine was easy to work with and the turn around time to receive the pictures were fast!   This was our first time doing a professional family shoot and it was such a great experience! Janine replied promptly to all of our email inquiries and was very helpful in picking a location. The day of our photo shoot it was raining, but Janine assured us she could still take great photos so we packed our daughter's rain boots and went to meet her. We had so much fun during the shoot and Janine captured fantastic pictures of our daughter splashing happily in puddles. The pictures turned out great and we would definitely book Spicer and Naoi again for our next round of family photos!

  Ippei and Janine are such a pleasure to work with. After working on putting together a wedding, I know how hard it is to talk to vendors but Ippei and Janine were the complete opposite!! Janine communicates everything perfectly and we were able to meet Ippei easily using her directions. Ippei was also amazing to work with! We booked a two hour session for our honeymoon to Tokyo and Ippei was able to capture our trip perfectly. We were able to do two complete different scenes. One in nature and one in the city. My husband and I are probably the worst at taking pictures (blinking and looking awkward). However, Ippei was able to capture our best sides!! I voiced some of my concerns while emailing Janine and she was able to help me out so much. She even emailed me what the weather should feel like in our local area!! She gave us some recommendations on what to wear. Overall, they are the best couple to work with. Why are you still reading this! Book with them nowwwwww!!

  I have just done my second photo shoot with Ippei - this time for my daughters' 753 - and he was fantastic, so patient (with the kids) and very professional. The results are stunning! Highly recommend!

  We were in Tokyo for a month with our 2 kids (3yo and 1yo) and wanted to take some quality family photos to close out our trip. I did a quick search on google and trip advisor, Spicer and Naoi was popping up in many reviews. I contacted them and got a response very quickly. It has been a pleasure working with janine. She has made the whole process as smooth as it could get. We had a screaming toddler and a sassy threenager, but Janine was so patient and understanding. She has turned our chaos into art. The turn around time was quick and easy. We got the online album before we even got over our jet lag. The pictures turned out amazing, we could not be happier. She truly captured all the little moments of our family. I'm so happy to have found spicer and naoi photography.   We decided to have a photo session in Japan during cherry blossom season. We fond Spicer and Naoi Photography and it was the best decision. From the beginning contact with Janine was excellent. She helped us to choose the places in Tokyo for a photo shooting where we still could have cherry blossom trees ( we were a little bit late for Sakura). One day before a session Janine was so kind to send us an e-mail with all the information needed for next day (including exact directions from our hotel to the meeting place). On the day of the session we met Ippei. It was our first time of this kind of photo session and Ippei was helpful and creative. Also he was very professional and full of passion. We got our pictures 4 days after a photo shooting. The pictures are so beautiful. It is truly a memorial for a lifetime. The service of Spicer and Naoi Photography was exceptional. We decided to take our wedding photos in Tokyo! Being from the states, never having traveled to Tokyo before, and not knowing enough Japanese to ask the right questions to a photographer, we stumbled upon some great reviews of Spicer & Naoi Photography online. Their English communication via email was great and they made us feel at ease from the get go! We met up with Ippei for the shoot and he guided us to discover our poses (we were full of giggles and couldn’t keep a straight face)! He really captured our personalities in the photos, was very helpful in answering all our questions, & gave us great direction for each location. We had the chance to have Ippei shoot the 753 ceremony of our daughter Mona last year in Meiji jingu... The photographs came out exactly as we had hoped. Wonderful stuff really and lifelong memories. Thank you again sir!
