Naoshima is the place to visit if you are a designer or interested in art and creativity because not only is the island home to the Benesse House Museum and Chichu Art Museum, but also there are many traditional houses and locations that have been transformed into contemporary art spaces, known as the Art House Project. Traditionally a sleepy fishing village island, Naoshima has been transformed over recent years and is a must-see for art and nature lovers alike. The island is quite small so the art sites can be covered in one day, but it is also nice to stay overnight and really take the time to enjoy the island’s natural scenery and the laid-back lifestyle of the Seto Inland Sea Islands.
