Gogoshima, also known as Gogo Island, is located in the Seto Inland Sea. It is part of the Kutsuna Islands and lies just a 10-minute ferry ride from Matsuyama in Shikoku. This small island is a paradise for citrus maniacs like us, with countless orchards growing over 30 varieties of top-notch fruits, including Setoka orange, Hime Koharu, and Beni Madonna orange—insanely juicy with that signature jelly-like texture. Most of these are in season between winter and early spring.
While winter is a paradise for citrus lovers, June to mid October is ideal for marine activities like snorkeling and SUP.
Gogoshima Beer Farm is an absolute must for craft beer lovers, set inside a beautiful 150-year-old traditional wooden house. They brew a wide range of beers, including ones made with local citrus fruits — our favorite is a hazy IPA with Beni Madonna oranges.
For coffee lovers, Cotton John Coffee is highly recommended. Their affogato is outstanding, and the owner is also a great source of local fishing tips — you can even rent fishing gear at Shima no Eki next door.
We highly recommend staying at Gogoshima Biyori, a beautifully renovated 80-year-old traditional wooden house, known for its thoughtful design and incredible attention to detail. Its outdoor space is perfect for BBQs and campfires, with lovely views over the Seto Inland Sea.
